Camping in the Cathedrals
It was an awesome camping trip … a bit cold in the night, and the packs were a bit heavy, but we saw so much and we felt so happy.
Our trip went something like this;
It started with a big long climb up to the top of Cathedral peak .. it started off gently, winding through the forest. There were heaps of fungi on the ground, and we even met a couple of fungi experts .. sadly I’d gotten rid of my foot fungus, so I couldn’t impress them with that. A short way into the walk we encountered a flock of Gang Gang Cockatoo’s .. the’re such cool birds with their little quiff’s.

Pretty soon we came to the a saddle, where we got our first glimpse of the view .. but we still had a big steep pull to go. At the top we could see right out over the town of Buxton, and right across a huge valley.
Then for the next couple of kms we scrambled along the very crest of a razor, thin ridge. Luckily it was a really still, and sunny day or this could have been scary.
Stopping to appreciate the view
It was kinda tiring picking our way along this ridge, watching your step, and figuring out the right path. So when we finally reached the “farmyard” we were glad to put down our packs and setup camp. We were just in time to drink a glass of wine on the ridge and watch the sunset
The next morning we awoke to the sound of our local Lyrebird .. this guy had an incredible repertoiur. Later on in the morning we got a great look at one of these birds, and took a photo. The Lyrebird’s song was pretty amazing to listen to .. but the main reason for not getting out of bed was the freezing cold morning .. when we did get up we discovered that our tent was covered in frost
Not the Lyrebird that woke us up .. his friend down the road
After climbing down the mountain we had an easy stroll along little river back to the car.
